As I was practicing yoga one day, I was in pigeon pose and thought about my alignment and the way it changes from day to day. Sometimes, one is so intent on form, that flexibility and function are dismissed.

May we be open to look at our alignments. May we see form, function, and flexibility as parts of the whole.

May I make adjustments day to day, to keep my alignment.

There are three intelligence centers in the body. One often hears people talk about ‘knowing in their gut,” “my heart told me,” or “I had an epiphany.”

Imagine what kind of awareness we might have, and radiate, if all of these were aligned?

May we be aware and see ourselves and all around us.

May my awareness expand.

The semicolon is used as a symbol for suicide awareness. It indicates a pause with more to the story. Not the end.

For me …and then, represents so many facets of my life. “I was successful, and then… I failed, and then… I got married and then… I got divorced and then… etc., etc., etc.” However, none are more poignant than knowing those who have come to believe the best option is to no longer be.

This piece is for:

Dave, Rob, Bing, Mia, Chad,…

All who have contemplated, attempted, and succeeded.

All who have loved, lost, held, hoped, longed for, or been affected by.

May we hold space for, console, and support those who currently feel hopelessness. May we see others and take action before it’s not possible.

Consciousness Rising began as a simple thought. Could we raise consciousness simply by looking up to one another? The simple act of really seeing others as part of us, may spark a rising of consciousness that radiates out and lifts us all.

May we truly see others, be authentically us, seek to understand, and be willing to grow.

May I continually seek to raise my own consciousness.

In 2020, I needed to create something that said “onward,” “moving forward,” or “keep on keeping on.” None really fit. Finally, toward the end of the build, I realized all were ways of being diligent.

May we be diligent in our pursuits of happiness. May we be diligent in creating joy, abundance, awareness, consciousness, community, and love.

May I be true to my intent and have diligence in my art.

In contemplation one day, I realized that most always, I’ve had support, help, direction, and cooperation in one form or another in everything that I have pursued in life.

Seeing and envisioning how people have lifted, encouraged, taught, demonstrated, and modeled for me, brought peace, courage, and insight.

Learning daily from successes and failures, struggles and triumphs; their’s as well as my own.

May I, in some fashion, with gratitude, elevate and continue to be elevated.

In philosophy, systems theory, science, and art, emergence occurs when an entity is observed to have properties its parts do not have on their own, properties or behaviors that emerge only when the parts interact in a wider whole. Emergence plays a central role in theories of integrative levels and of complex systems.

To me, emergence is a continuing evolution of self and my interaction with others. My current iteration. The shedding of what isn’t providing wellness, health and joy. The exploration, and willingness to find what does.

May each of us emerge in our own time, space, and way.

May I continually emerge, being fully myself and present with those around me.

During a yoga practice one day I contemplated a scorpion pose. Intensity, focus, power, balance, and electric blue came into my consciousness and flow.

What if we put our energies toward goodness, kindness, love, and connection? May we be energy.

May I have power to create. May I focus my energy to connect, communicate, and care.

This piece started as a way for me to process the war in Ukraine and had a working title of “Why.” It began to mean more to me as mass shootings seemed to be increasing exponentially, the divisiveness of politics, religions, social media, news and opinions becoming overwhelming.

The title became clear to me and is inspired by Fragile, a song written and performed by Sting.

If blood will flow, when flesh and steel are one,

Drying in the color of the evening sun,

Tomorrow’s rain will wash the stains away

But something in our minds will always stay

Perhaps this final act was meant to clinch a lifetime’s argument

That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could

For all those born beneath an angry star

Lest we forget how fragile we are.

On and on the rain will fall

Like tears from a star, like tears from a star

In 2003 Healing the Divide was founded by the Utah Psychological Society as a dialogue group, meeting once a month to discuss various divides, ranging from socio-economic, race, gender, religious, philosophical, etc.

I have been privileged to participate in this group for almost 12 years. The sculpture was created to honor the group, the healing, and the process. I have come to believe that the divides in the world are simply larger manifestations of the divides in myself.

May we seek to create connection, community, and awareness through open, honest, and respectful dialogue.

May I endeavor to heal my divides, and heal the world in so doing.

Hinduism - a sacred syllable typifying the three gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva, who are concerned in the threefold operation of integration, maintenance, and disintegration.

Infinite’S OM plays on words and is significant to me. “Sou” is Portuguese for I am, and “Som” means sound. While chanting Oms, I had a sense of oneness. I am. We are. Being.

Each of us are infinite, full of light and darkness, female and male, yin and yang, in codeing one and zero, open and shut, all at the same time. It is like a consciousness portal. Please, step in, call out, tap, bump and hear the infinite.

May we see all, as we, and part of the infinite whole.

May I find peace in my infinite iterations.

Orientation to me, implies direction, understanding, and presence. Knowing where I am in relation to others, myself, time, my environment, etc.

Teach started as a movement from being crouched, ready and grounded, to a position of reaching and expanding. Originally, I had several working titles such as mentor and 30,000 ft. As I was finishing the final pass on my last seam, I received a call from Oquirrh Hills middle school to participate in career day. In that moment, I realized that I’ve had many teachers that have helped me be grounded, and grow, soar, and explore. Thank you!
